YOUTH STAGE ACTORS ENCHANT AND DELIGHT AS THE
LITTLE MERMAID PLAYS TO PACKED HOUSES
Salt Lake City, UT, April 14, 2009 – The Children’s Theatre announces the extremely
successful opening weekend of the Youth Stage performance of THE LITTLE MERMAID
and looks ahead to this weekend’s closing shows. This classic tale performed by
Theatre School actors ages 8 to 18, opened to large and enthusiastic crowds including
two sold out performances. This captivating show’s run winds up this weekend, April
17th and 18th, with Friday’s show at 7:00 pm and Saturday shows at 1:00pm and
4:30pm.
THE LITTLE MERMAID, adapted by Joanne Parker from the stories of Hans Christian
Andersen, tells the story of a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and
her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul and the love of a human prince.
Based on the success of the first weekend, the $8 general admission tickets will sell
fast for this vibrant, enthralling production.
Youth Stage, along with Summer Drama Camps and The Elements of Theatre after
school classes, is a part of the Theatre School program. Youth Stage teaches the
discipline of working as an actor in the theatre and prospects ages 8 to 18 are invited to
audition for entry into the program. Students investigate all styles of theatre eventually
taking one story from concept through Closing Night. In so doing they produce truly
engaging shows on par with many of our Mainstage performances, making the actor’s
ages the only noticeable difference. The Youth Stage’s educational objective, as with all
of the Theatre School classes, is not stardom but to have students learn the discipline
and skills of the stage through these student performances.
For more information about the Youth Stage, Summer Drama Camps or other Theatre
School programs offered by The Children’s Theatre please call 801.532.6000 or go

Saturday shows at 1pm and 4:30pm. General Admission tickets are $8 for Youth Stage
performances.
